Every country is faced with its own problems. Problems caused by the different views of people and especially the history of the country. After being colonized by the Italians, the Libyan people have been “given the fish and not taught how to capture it themselves.” Therefore, after Libya gained it’s independence once more, it could barely manage on it’s own.  Chaos and corrupt unstable government ruled the country. Libya needs worldwide help to get its feet back on the ground.

Ever since the mustard gas bombs against Libyan rebels where dropped in 1929, Libya has been an unsafe environment. Currently stabilizing passport and visa control has helped the fight against terrorism. It would take several months for an American citizen to pass into Libyan borders. “ As Libya has taken steps to cooperate in the global war on terrorism, the Libyan Government’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism was rescinded on June 30, 2006.” World wide terrorist alerts state that extremist are continuing to plan terrorist attacks against U.S interest in the region in Libya. Therefore any citizen deciding to travel to Libya should maintain strong security by being aware of the surrounding, avoiding crowds and try to keep a low profile. Hotel rooms, telephones, and fax machines may be monitored, showing awareness in security.

Crime against foreigners in Libya is a huge concern. Vehicle burglaries, pick-pocketing and residential burglaries are all very common. Pickpocket teams are known to operate around the bus station adjacent to the Corinthia Hotel and nearby the Burj Al-Fatah Tower complex while operating swiftly. One theft tries to get the attention of the victim while others jab a whole into the purse/bag to get the valuable items out of the other side. Attacks on women range from physical abuse to sexual groping, assault/battery, and attempted rape. Libyan healthcare such as ambulances and police cars are most often poorly equipped and many Libyan citizens prefer to be treated outside of Libya for ailments, such as heart disease and diabetes. The funding for roads in Libya is poorly founded. Not many stop signs driving laws, or paved roads  exist therefore causing a high rate of car accidents.

After Libya was left on its own, it has been a struggle to keep its country together. It has to face constant problems of terrorism, crime, and visa control. This issue should be resolved with global help from the U.N to make Libya a safer place. It all starts from the civilians; Stabilizing order and government will create hope for the people of Libya, and a new safer environment.
